About

Hello! I'm Jake. I'm a native English speaker from the United States. My hobbies include reading, writing, cooking, and playing guitar. I believe that education is a reciprocal experience, in that as the student is learning, I am learning as well, by teaching them. Keeping things fun and engaging is a top priority for me, and I encourage students to let me know if they have trouble understanding something. Students do not need to be completely fluent in English to talk with me, and the classroom environment is casual. My hours are very flexible, and I respond to messages quickly. As a native English speaker, I have an instinctive grasp of the trickier parts of the language, such as grammar, slang, tenses, etc. I also love conversation, and am exceedingly patient. Having an interest in the culture and background of the student I am teaching means that it isn't difficult for me to engage with them and develop a rapport. As someone who has taken a foreign language in college (Norwegian), I understand very well the difficulties of acquiring a new language, and as such want to talk with the student, rather than to them, in order to maximize the learning process.

    Experience

I have experience tutoring on Preply with students from a variety of backgrounds.
