I believe that age and level appropriate conversations have the best success with the least amount of stress for the student.
These conversations can be deliberate (colors, transportation, phrases), or they can be organic conversations about what the student is interested in, an assignment from school, or an event that has taken place. There is also the ability to transition into structured learning for the student who is ready and wants to dig deeper into the English language.
But ultimately, my goal is to get the student comfortable speaking to me, so they can in turn, be comfortable learning and using their English skills outside the class room with confidence.
