Marrying a native Serbo Croatian
My name is Elena and I'm a young girl taking her first steps tutoring.
I was born in Serbia but I have been living in Italy for more than twenty years, since my parents moved there when I was a baby.
Growing up surrounded by both Italian and Serbian languages and culture aroused my natural inclination and my deep love for languages. That encouraged me to attend a foreign languages specialized course at one of the best high school in my area where I learned also English, German and Spanish.
I have a native level command of both Italian and Serbian, although I probably am a little bit better at Italian.
For what concerns English, German and Spanish, I reached an upper intermediate level in each language during my studies.
After high school, I had the chance to get better at both English and German working in the tourism industry. I have a high grammar knowledge of both languages but I still feel more comfortable communicating in English than German since I'm more fluent.
Despite the fact that I never really got to use Spanish that much after finishing my studies, I do understand almost everything when listening or reading and I can communicate within given limits if needed.
Private lessons at home.
LEARNING OF THE GRAMMAR
Learning a language is like building a house... You need a good base if you want the structure to hold together! Grammar is one of the most important elements of your language study. Knowing the grammar helps you develop the habit of thinking clearly and helps you become more accurate when learning a language.
We are going to focus together on the most important grammar rules according to your level and practice through examples and exercises.
READING
Reading is one of the best ways to immerse yourself in the language. It allows you to both contextualize what you already know and learn a lot of new words and expressions.
That's why we are going to read and translate different kinds of texts and use them as a source of new vocabularies, idioms, grammar rules to learn and topics to discuss together.
TALKING, TALKING AND TALKING!
Studyng the written language is hugely important but the most effective way to learn a new language is to speak it. Being forced to speak the language will help you overcome your fears - of making mistakes, of being shy, of sounding foolish - all things that stand in the way of your language learning.
We are going to communicate in the language you are learning as much as possible (according to your level) and do a lot of conversation practice using different methods. That will make you move your knowledge of grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation from your 'slow memory' to your 'quick memory' improving your fluency and communication skills.
